Doug Jones Unveils A Vision for Alabama, Calls for “A Different Kind of State Government”

Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones, Democratic nominee for governor, delivered A Vision for Alabama, a major policy address Monday at Red Mountain Theatre in Birmingham. The speech outlined Jones’ plan to build a state where every Alabamian has Three Real Opportunities: the opportunity to live a healthy life, the opportunity to meaningfully participate in your government, and the opportunity to achieve economic prosperity. 

The address marks the most comprehensive policy agenda Jones has released in his campaign for governor.

"The goal is a different kind of state government,” said Jones. “One that actually belongs to the people of Alabama. One that listens before it lectures. One that solves problems instead of staging distractions."

Jones called for expanding Medicaid, protecting rural hospitals, strengthening ethics and transparency laws, giving voters the opportunity to vote on a standalone lottery, creating a citizen-led ballot initiative process, and lowering costs for working families. He also proposed a one-year moratorium on new AI data center projects until Alabama establishes statewide safeguards that protect taxpayers, ratepayers, local communities, and natural resources before additional projects move forward.  

Jones’ agenda for Alabama is rooted in a simple belief: government should work for the people it serves, not the powerful.

"The real villain in Alabama is not your neighbor. It’s not the family down the road who prays a little differently, or looks a little different, or came here from a little farther away,” Jones said. “The real villain is the small circle of people who have grown very rich and very comfortable off a system that keeps you focused on fearing each other."

A Vision for Alabama serves as the governing framework for Jones' campaign, outlining the policy agenda he would pursue as governor.
