Tuberville Won’t Debate Doug Jones. So Jones Is Bringing the Debate to Him

Birmingham, AL – Tommy Tuberville says there is no reason to debate Doug Jones. So Sunday night, Jones decided to respond to Tuberville another way: roll the tape.

During his weekly Ask Doug Live, Jones played clips of his Republican opponent’s recent remarks on Social Security, tariffs and public safety before responding directly to Tuberville’s claim that there is no reason for the two candidates to debate because their differences amount to “just difference of opinion.”

After playing Tuberville’s comments warning Alabamians not to expect a “big paycheck” from Social Security, Jones pushed back on the senator’s continued attacks on the program.

“Nobody thinks they’re going to get a big paycheck from Social Security,” Jones said. “This ain’t the damn lottery. What people want is stability. What people want is a month-to-month paycheck that they’ve been able to count on.”

Jones also played Tuberville defending Donald Trump’s tariff war with Canada, claiming Alabama “sold all of our manufacturing” overseas in the 1990s. Jones pointed to the growth of Alabama’s automobile manufacturing industry in the decades since.

“We’ve got the prime minister of Canada taking up for Alabama automobile manufacturers, not Tommy Tuberville,” Jones said. “There is absolutely no understanding of tariff policy and what it means, or he doesn’t care because Donald Trump does it and he’s not going to challenge it. As I said, he takes a knee for a losing team.”

Finally, Jones played Tuberville explaining why he sees no reason to debate because their differences amount to “just difference of opinion.”

“Well, that’s debatable right there,” Jones responded. “This is not just differences of opinion, folks. This is about your future. People of Alabama deserve a debate.”
