Doug Jones Joined MSNOW's "The Weekend Primetime" Sunday evening

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Doug Jones joined MSNOW's "The Weekend Primetime" Sunday evening to make the case that Alabama is in play. The conversation covered Tommy Tuberville's record in the Senate, the residency questions following his opponent, Medicaid expansion, and what the May primary numbers are telling Alabama Democrats about November.

On Tuberville's six years in Washington, Jones was clear. "He consistently embarrasses the state," Jones said. "He has not had any major legislation at all that helps the state of Alabama or the country, for that matter."

On why voters across the state are paying attention, Jones pointed to what people are feeling at home. "People are hurting. People are seeing their gas prices, their electricity prices, their grocery prices, health care — all of that is on the table," he noted.

When host Elise Jordan asked whether his campaign would formally challenge Tuberville's eligibility under Alabama's residency requirements, Jones was clear that his campaign would not be leading that fight — but made no mistake about the reality on the ground.

"Everybody in Alabama knows he's really not a resident of the state of Alabama," Jones said. "He spends his time on the beach down in northern Florida. That's where he is. That's where he stays. That's where he lives."

On Medicaid, Jones pointed to a decades-long failure of leadership in Montgomery. "We've not had a governor or even any statewide officeholder that has been a champion of expanding Medicaid," Jones added. He committed to making it a day-one priority under his administration, calling it long overdue for rural communities across the state.

On momentum, the May 19th primary numbers told their own story. Democratic ballots doubled compared to 2022, while Republican turnout dropped by 25% despite millions spent on contested primary races. "We're giving folks choices up and down the ballot for the first time since 2006," Jones said, "and people are recognizing that."
