PRESS RELEASE

Doug Jones Calls on Tuberville to Divest AI, Data Center Holdings

Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones is calling on Tommy Tuberville to divest his financial interests tied to AI and data centers, saying Alabamians deserve to know their next governor is working for them, not his investment portfolio.

“I’m calling on Senator Tuberville to divest every share of stock, every option, every position tied to AI, data centers and the utilities that serve them,” Jones said at a Wednesday press conference. “If he wants to be the governor of Alabama, he cannot be a shareholder in the industry he is asking Alabama to bet its future on.”

During his first five years in the Senate, Tuberville reported more than 250 transactions involving companies substantially involved in AI and data center development, with reported transaction values totaling between $5.2 million and $14 million.

Those transactions included 14 involving stock and options in Alibaba, the Chinese technology giant and a major player in AI and cloud computing. The Alabama Reflector independently verified each of the financial disclosures compiled by the Jones campaign.

“He tells you we have to do data centers so that we can beat China on AI,” Jones said. “But as a senator, he was personally invested in one of China’s leading AI and data center companies at a time when the data center and AI boom was taking off.”

An analysis of Tuberville’s latest financial disclosure shows between $500,000 and $1.5 million in holdings tied to companies substantially involved in AI and data center development.

The issue takes on added significance because Alabama’s financial disclosure requirements for state officials are far less detailed than those required of members of the U.S. Senate. If Tuberville becomes governor, Alabamians could have less information about his investments, even as his administration makes decisions affecting an industry in which he has substantial financial interests. Alabama Reflector compared Tuberville’s 2025 state and congressional disclosures and found that the public version of his Alabama filing revealed significantly less information.

Jones called for stronger financial disclosure requirements for state and local officials and a ban on individual stock and options trading by statewide elected officials.

“Alabamians shouldn’t have to wonder whether their governor is looking out for their power bills, their water and their communities or the value of his own stock portfolio,” Jones said.
